Matias Liimatainen

Matias Liimatainen (born 1989) is a sculptor working with ceramics, glass and wood. The phenomena of nature are a theme often extending throughout his works. Instead of landscapes and animal figures as such, he is currently seeking approaches to his work from their textures and surfaces. The set of works made by him for the exhibition was inspired by the structures of textiles in the archives of the Friends of Finnish Handicraft and the weave bindings of the completed fabrics. Liimatainen’s work has also been influenced by sketches of landscape motifs by the artists. Liimatainen seeks the essence of the material, making use of its most natural and unforced potential. His works are creates through material-based thinking.
